Glass repair, replacement, and ADAS recal
Phil Long Collision Center repairs chips, replaces windshields, and recalibrates your vehicle's safety cameras in-house at two Colorado Springs locations.
Repair or replace?
Not every windshield chip requires replacement. Small chips and short cracks can often be repaired with resin injection, which restores structural integrity, stops the damage from spreading, and restores optical clarity. Most chip repairs take under an hour and cost significantly less than a full replacement.
Whether your windshield can be repaired depends on the size, depth, type, and location of the damage. Phil Long’s technicians assess every windshield and give you a clear, honest recommendation before any work begins.
When is windshield replacement necessary?
- The chip or crack is larger than a quarter in diameter
- The crack extends to the edge of the windshield
- There are multiple chips or cracks in the same area
- The damage is within the driver’s primary line of vision
- The damage intersects with the forward camera mounting zone
- The windshield is structurally compromised at the edge seal
When replacement is required, Phil Long sources OEM-grade glass that matches your manufacturer’s fit and optical specifications. Aftermarket glass that does not meet OEM optical standards can interfere with ADAS camera performance.
What happens when you call
Assessment
A technician evaluates the chip or crack: its size, depth, and location relative to the driver's line of vision and the structural edge of the glass. You get a clear recommendation on whether repair or replacement is the right call.
Insurance coordination
Phil Long bills your insurance directly. For windshield repair, comprehensive coverage often applies with no deductible. For full replacement, comprehensive coverage typically applies after your deductible. We confirm coverage before work begins.
Repair or replacement
Chip and crack repairs are completed in under an hour in most cases. Full windshield or glass replacements take 2 to 3 hours, including time for the adhesive to cure before the vehicle is moved.
ADAS recalibration
If your vehicle has a forward-facing camera mounted to the windshield, or rear and side cameras affected by the glass replacement, Phil Long performs ADAS recalibration in-house before delivery. This is included, not billed separately.
Delivery
You receive a walkthrough of the completed work before pickup. Safe drive-away time for windshield adhesive is confirmed. Any recalibrated safety systems are noted in your paperwork.
ADAS recalibration after windshield replacement
Most vehicles built after 2016 with driver assistance features mount a forward-facing camera behind the windshield. This camera powers automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, and adaptive cruise control. When the windshield is removed and reinstalled, that camera is repositioned. Even a small shift in the camera’s angle can cause the system to brake at the wrong distance, fail to detect lane markings, or generate false alerts.
Phil Long performs ADAS recalibration in-house after every windshield replacement on a qualifying vehicle. Static calibration uses manufacturer-specified targets in a controlled environment. Dynamic calibration is completed on the road at specified speeds. The method required depends on your vehicle’s make, model, and camera system.
Recalibration is included as part of the windshield replacement, not billed as a separate service. Many glass shops send vehicles to a third party for calibration, which adds time and a separate appointment. At Phil Long, it is done before delivery.
Glass services

Cost and insurance coverage
Windshield chip repair is typically covered under comprehensive auto insurance. Many insurers waive the deductible for chip repair because repair costs less than replacement and avoids a larger claim later. Phil Long confirms your coverage before work begins and bills your insurer directly.
Full windshield replacement is also covered under comprehensive coverage, after your deductible. Side window replacement from vandalism or theft is handled the same way. If you are paying out of pocket, Phil Long provides a written estimate before any work begins.
ADAS recalibration is included in the cost of a qualifying windshield replacement, whether the job is paid by insurance or out of pocket. It is not a line item you negotiate separately.
How long does glass service take?
- Chip or crack repair: under 1 hour in most cases
- Full windshield replacement, no ADAS: 2 to 3 hours
- Full windshield replacement with static ADAS recalibration: 3 to 4 hours
- Side or rear glass replacement: 2 to 3 hours
Windshield replacements require a minimum cure time before the vehicle is driven. Phil Long confirms the safe drive-away window before you pick up your vehicle.
Why Phil Long for glass service
Windshield replacement sounds straightforward until you factor in ADAS. Shops that replace glass but send your vehicle elsewhere for calibration add time and create a handoff where accountability gets unclear. Phil Long performs both services under one roof with technicians certified to the manufacturer’s procedures for your vehicle.
OEM-grade glass sourced for your specific vehicle matters. Some aftermarket glass does not meet the optical tolerances required for accurate ADAS camera performance. Phil Long uses glass that meets manufacturer specifications so the calibration holds and your safety systems work correctly.
Phil Long has operated in Colorado Springs since 1945. Two locations, I-CAR Gold Class certification, and nine manufacturer certifications mean the same facility handling your collision repair is also handling your glass service to the same standard.
