Collision repair done right, the first time

Phil Long Collision Center has repaired vehicles to factory specifications in Colorado Springs since 1945, with I-CAR Gold Class technicians and manufacturer certifications across nine brands.

What happens when you call

When you contact Phil Long Collision Center after an accident, the first step is a written damage assessment, not a handshake and a guess. A technician documents every area of concern, including structural damage that may not be obvious from looking at the outside of the vehicle. You receive a detailed repair plan and timeline before any work begins.

If your vehicle was towed directly to our facility, we will contact you to walk through the findings. If you are handling an insurance claim, we coordinate with your adjuster directly. Under Colorado’s Right to Choose law, your insurer cannot require you to use a specific shop. You decide where your vehicle is repaired.

The repair process, step by step

1

Damage assessment

You bring your vehicle in or call to schedule. A technician performs a written damage assessment and documents every area of concern, including hidden structural damage that may not be visible on the surface.

2

Estimate and approval

You receive a detailed written estimate with a repair plan and timeline. If your insurance is involved, we communicate directly with your adjuster. Colorado law gives you the right to choose your repair facility regardless of what your insurer recommends.

3

Structural analysis

Before any body work begins, your vehicle goes on our computerized frame measuring system. If the frame or unibody is out of spec, it is corrected first. This step cannot be skipped without compromising the repairs that follow.

4

Panel repair and replacement

Damaged panels are repaired or replaced following OEM procedures for your make and model. Where your manufacturer requires OEM parts, we source them. Where aftermarket parts are approved, we document that too.

5

Paint matching and refinish

A spectrophotometer reads your vehicle's exact paint code and current finish condition. The refinishing process follows your manufacturer's multi-stage procedure, including surface preparation, primer, base coat, clear coat, and controlled curing.

6

Quality inspection and delivery

Before you pick up your vehicle, a final quality inspection confirms the repair meets Phil Long's standards and your manufacturer's specifications. Any ADAS systems affected by the repair are recalibrated in-house.

Core repair services

Structural & frame repair

Frame damage affects every safety system attached to it. Phil Long uses computerized measuring equipment to confirm your frame is back to factory specifications before body work begins. No guesswork.

Panel replacement & repair

Damaged panels are repaired or replaced using OEM parts where required by your manufacturer's procedures. Every repair follows the spec for your specific make and model.

Paint & refinish

A spectrophotometer reads your vehicle's exact color code and formulates a match. Refinishing follows multi-stage OEM procedures: surface prep, primer, base coat, clear coat, and curing.

Cost and insurance coverage

Collision repair costs depend on the extent of structural damage, the panels affected, paint complexity, and the parts required by your manufacturer’s repair procedures. A minor fender repair and a front-end structural repair are very different jobs. Phil Long provides a written estimate before any work begins so there are no surprises.

If you are filing an insurance claim, collision coverage typically applies to accident damage after your deductible. Phil Long works directly with all major insurance carriers and supplements the claim when hidden damage is discovered during the repair. You are not responsible for negotiating with your insurer. We handle that communication on your behalf.

If you are paying out of pocket, the estimate you receive is the basis for the repair. Any changes to scope require your approval before work proceeds.

How long does collision repair take?

Repair timelines depend on the scope of work, parts availability, and whether additional structural damage is discovered once the vehicle is disassembled. Here are general ranges:

  • Minor panel damage (no structural involvement): 2 to 4 days
  • Moderate damage (multiple panels, no frame): 5 to 8 days
  • Structural or frame damage: 2 to 3 weeks
  • Severe front or rear-end damage with ADAS components: 3 to 4 weeks

Phil Long provides a timeline with your estimate and updates you when parts arrive or if scope changes during the repair.

Why Phil Long over other shops in Colorado Springs

Phil Long has operated in Colorado Springs since 1945. The collision center carries I-CAR Gold Class status, which requires ongoing technician training to keep current with evolving repair procedures across vehicle makes. Most shops do not maintain Gold Class status.

Manufacturer certifications for Ford, Ford Aluminum, Mercedes-Benz, Audi, Kia, Hyundai, Subaru, and Corvette mean Phil Long’s technicians have passed brand-specific training and use approved tools and procedures. If you bring a certified vehicle to a non-certified shop, the repair may void your manufacturer’s warranty and may not meet the OEM structural standards.

Phil Long operates two Colorado Springs locations, which means capacity is less likely to be a bottleneck during peak periods like hail season. ADAS calibration is performed in-house at both locations, so your vehicle does not leave for a third-party calibration appointment before delivery.
